Psychological assessment
For several years, I have been offering specialized psychological assessment services in Montreal and the surrounding areas. These assessments are conducted primarily in the context of legal proceedings, at the request of the Youth Division or the Superior Court of Quebec, particularly in family matters. They are designed to provide objective, rigorous, and nuanced clinical opinions to inform judicial decision-making in complex cases where the well-being of children is often a central concern.
Parenting capacity assessments are an important part of my work. They aim to assess the strengths and limitations of one or both parents in their parental role. These assessments are often requested in contexts of separation, severe conflict, or child protection. They take into account multiple factors: the parent's emotional stability, their educational skills, their ability to meet their child's needs, the quality of the parent-child bond, and their ability to collaborate with stakeholders or the other parent in the child's best interest.
I also conduct psychological assessments of children and adolescents. These allow us to better understand the psychological functioning of the young person, identify potential difficulties (emotional, behavioral, developmental, etc.), and assess their emotional, relational, and educational needs. These assessments are particularly important when a child is at the center of a family dispute or is subject to protective measures. They allow us to hear their reality and contribute to decisions that respect their pace and development.
In child custody cases, I conduct in-depth assessments aimed at identifying the parental custody arrangement that best meets the child's needs, taking into account their specific situation. This involves understanding the overall context: the parents' relationship, the family climate, any history of violence or neglect), the ability of each to foster harmonious co-parenting, and the child's condition and the conditions that can best support their continued development.
